Reel Images

What is an image?  Images are photographs, typefaces, familiar faces, a favorite place or flower.  The sight of such images are evocative for their viewers.

Truthfully, we each have our own unique interpretations of the same image because it is natural for us to graft our own experiences onto that image.  We want to make it ours.

How an individual engages with an image is in fact influenced by several factors, vis-a-vie aesthetic engagement: sensory, emotional and representative stand out in my image reels.

For my blog for class this week, I digitally remixed photos and grouped them together into image reels.

The images are shown morphing into their originals.

  1. I absolutely love this concept. What made you think of this sort of reverse-editing? Did you play with other ways of showing the images? Like a slide show or something similar? Do you think that would affect the meaning of the images?

  2. Melissa, thanks for the response! (Yes, I'm using an exclamation point here). I had been playing around with a few different image remix ideas before I thought of just doing it in reverse back to the original. Initially I couldn't think of a way to create a slideshow of all different still shots, so I created a "reel" for each photo.

The meaning of the images would change entirely if they were apart of a slideshow, and I don't think that each image alone makes much sense without the others, so the groupings here provide context.

  5. This is really cool. I've never seen reverse images before. What program or application did you use to create these?
